Property Negotiations

To negotiate well with an agent, you should first familiarise yourself with the market.

  • Find out what homes or apartments in the near vicinity have sold for.
  • Compare these properties. Are they better or worse
  • Find out what similar properties have sold for over the past 3 - 6 months (depending on volume of sales in the price range you are considering).

Thorough research will give you the confidence to negotiate and more stealth to not over pay – but what about your emotions!

Be careful as your love for this property may cloud your judgment – it is easy to pay more if you can and you really want the property.

It is easy to justify to yourself that you can afford to pay more, it will be the end of the search and you do love the property.

No two properties are identical. Once you have found the right property for you, it is very easy to become emotionally attached to it. You don’t want to miss out on it – right.

Real estate agents are very good at bringing this emotion to the forefront.
