Neutral Bay
Neutral Bay is located 5.5km from the CBD. The water views include the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. The area facing the water is mainly sandstone cliff. This has provided a large number of homes and apartments with views without the loss of greenery.
Neutral Bay’s housing is a mixture of apartments, terraces, semis and houses. Most of the apartments are low rise as they were built in the early to mid 1900’s. The streets are narrow and parking is a premium. It is an area that you don’t really need a car as you have access to buses and ferries. It is close enough to the city, that walking is an option for the fit.
Neutral Bay has some great cafes, including Thelma and Louise on the harbour and some great drinking spots such as the Oaks. Over the past few years, the area seems to be attracting quite a few Japanese restaurants and they are always full. It is not just the sushi variety.
This is the area that May Gibbs created her wonderful characters of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. Her home, Nutcote is now open to the public at 5 Wallaringa Ave and has been lovingly restored to its former beauty.
